Psst...Check this Place Out

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. If you take a small country road from Bergamo north into the mountains and continue to follow the narrow roads snaking their way continuously upward, you will eventually happen upon a tiny village called Fuipiano. It is here, at its very edge, that you will find the "Albergo Moderno."

This place is of particular note because it serves the best Tiramisu in all of Italy and thus, probably in the whole world. My gracious host, the ever smiling Stephano, took painstaking care that everything was "just so." His father, the absolute spitting image of "Captain Haddock," who had just gotten home from a hunting trip in Ireland, eagerly lit the fireplace to ensure my comfort and attempted small chit chat in his broken English.

The village was quietly serene and the scenery...well, let's just say I felt like I had stepped into a fairytale.

Hi Carla - It is a fairy tale. I don't see any golden arches, or Wal-Mart, or Starbucks, or Safeway, or...

...a regular, holy g*d-d*mned fairy tale I tell you. Thanks for posting some more travel pics. They've been fun to follow.

Thanks for sharing the secret. Fuipiano looks like a gorgeous place, Carla. I particularily like the final photograph, which gives a sense of the grandiose landscape.

And I now have a peculiar urge to consume Tiramisu...

Have a lovely weekend.

Fool, Yes, there still are a few gems in the world which have managed to avoid big corporation domination, and they are worth the visit.

Barnes, It truly was lovely. I too have had the craving for Tiramisu since then, and I'd offer to make you some, but I'm sure it just wouldn't live up to what I had in Fuipiano.

Toby, I certainly would have been delighted were I able to spend more time there.

JBelle, Fabulous idea. Is two o'clock okay?

Fabulous.

We have a couple friends leaving for Italy just a few days, I must say I am jealous. Instead, we are headed to Montana and Idaho next month. Not quite as romantic.

Burdockboy, You may not be in Italy, but what really counts is who you're with. And who knows, perhaps you will discover a few gems that you'll be able to share with us.

Toby, the photo illusion is brilliant, much better then the countless people who were trying to perfect a picture of themselves either holding up or pushing down the tower.
