It's Not...

"Well, it's not Versailles," the woman next to me hastily mutters as she turns to her husband.

Was Bill Cosby there?

The scale of "appreciation" is very strange.

Please, some more info on the arch & statuary.

One time @ Niagra Falls, and there was a little kid at the rails taking it in, and he turned to his parents and said, "So? What's the big deal?"

Only in my imagination.

Fool, this arch / park is right behind the Castello Sforzesco in Milan. It's described as a sadly neglected 47 hectare park featuring a neoclassical arch. It was inaugurated by Napoleon in 1806...so it seems that there is actually a French connection.

"Sadly neglected" seems to share the same scale as "appreciation." The park sure looks beautiful in the photo. Other parks I have seen should suffer such sad neglect.

;)

Fool, that's kind of what I thought.

Was the person who made that comment French?

I've gotten frustrated with Francophilia among French people lately...

By the way, I haven't forgotten the update on French politics...I've been trying to do balanced research to write something intelligent, but there are so many debates going on that I don't feel competent to write an "intro" to the upcoming presidential election...

However, maybe this will help: I asked two French friends (who have both lived in the states for a time and are familiar with US politics) how they would briefly explain the election to North Americans. The first one said:

"Segolene Royal is Hilary Clinton, Sarkozy in Bush, and LePen is the leader of the KKK."

Then the second fellow said, "Hey, Sarkozy isn't Bush!"

So the first said, "Fine, he's Bush 'lite'."

I had to go at that moment, but each of them promised me a longer explanation of how this description does/does not fit...

But maybe that's a starting point?

Lady Bonds,

Not sure...I'll have to look into that.

I'm so glad you haven't forgotten about the French politics brief. I like your friends' analogies to the American politicians. That immediately paints a much clearer picture. I would have liked to have been party to the rest of that conversation. Looking forward to hearing more.
