Viking Laws

On the rare occasion, we find something that will or has passed the test of time. I think you will find this is still good advice even in this day and age.

~1. Be brave and aggressive

be direct
grab all opportunities
use varying methods of attack
be versatile and agile
attack one target at a time
don't plan everything in detail
use top quality weapons

~2. Be prepared
keep weapons in good conditions
keep in shape
find good battle comrades
agree on important points
choose one chief

~3. Be a good merchant
find out what the market needs
don't promise what you can't keep
don't demand overpayment
arrange things so that you can return

~4. Keep the camp in order
keep things tidy and organized
arrange enjoyable activities which strengthen the group
make sure everybody does useful work
consult all members of the group for advice

Sounds like good old common sense and courtesy. A little of both, will go a long way in this world.

~5 never, never allow your tribe's investments to rely on American hedge funds.

They didn't have this in the past, but I am pretty sure they are including an amendment.

All kidding aside. Very cool.stuff. Incredibly striking photography.

Isle Dance, Much of that is still sound advice, isn't it?

We're Doomed, It certainly does...will.

Some things do hold the test of time. Now, where's a village to plunder?

Great photos. Love dem sod roofs.

NYD, Yes, financial crises seems to be looming everywhere. As for the photography, the photos were taken at the Folkemuseum in Voss which is actually the old Mølster farmstead. They were relations of mine.

Fool, I like those sod roofs as well. They also have some of slate that are shaped like fish scales and glisten in the rain. Also a favorite.

Those pictures are great! I've never seen any quite like that. Some good basic principles for living, too.

Four laws were enough, certainly, for your... ancestors? and for us.

(Oh, by the way, do not hesitate to go to Disneyland. I went by chance (it was not my iniciative, so I was "versatile") but it was very very joyful). After going to the resort I realized that we were all the time in the direction to the space for 5-7 years-old children. We left our "regression" when arrived to Pin&Pon lake).

Attack one target at a time - Ahh, ADD is in my way!

Don't plan everything in detail - Now, THAT, is no problem!

Find good battle comrades - are you with me?

Don't demand overpayment - ok, I never get what I am worth anyway :-(

Consult all members of the group for advice - forget it!

Chani, Those pictures were taken in Norway and are a good sampling of how they once lived...in fact not so long ago. And yes, most those principals are pretty good common sense.

VE, Yes, I live in the side of a mountain, only see the light of day on the most rare occasions. That's why I'm online so much.

Carla said...

Aaouie, Yes indeed, these were my ancestors. And these laws certainly encompass most situations and make for peaceful living.

Carla said...

Fida, Yes, I'm a little ADD myself...far too random abstract. Oh well. In terms of consulting all members, there are diplomatic ways of getting what you want.

Viking Law! A new/old standard! I"m going to use this. "Get this place cleaned up! VIKING LAW!" "Don't just come here and expect to ride on my coattails! VIKING LAW!" BE LIKE A VIKING!

Wonderful photos and great advice. We just had a series of sermons on being a warrior. Today's was being a passionate warrior and covered some of the things here.

JBelle, "Be like a Viking!" Great advice!!

Pinks, Glad you like it.

fantastic photos, very good words of advice. i am off to put my camp in order!

This is great knowledge to pass to the younger generation. I'm going to chase down my boys and MAKE them read this! LOL!

Carla said...

Pandave, It's an eternal struggle to get one's camp in order. I'm still working on that one.

Envoy-ette, They are fabulous rules to live by. The world would be a better place if everyone could agree to abide by these rules. I suppose everyone would want to be the chief though. Everyone thinks they're a leader without realizing that there are no leaders if 90% don't follow.

Dearest Carla

I know it has been years now...and we do truely miss your fabulous words of wisdom and amazing recipies. THANK YOU for sharing the Viking Laws. They inspired me years ago and today...as I prepare once again to leave my comfort zone and do battle...I read them to keep me strong. I say NO to family violence and abuse. THANK YOU for inspiration and COURAGE when I thought I had none left. THANK YOU
