Toast

To my fabulously clean ancestors. Skål

From Reginsmál (25):
Kembðr ok þveginn skal kœnna hverr|
Combed and washed every thoughtful man should be
ok at morni mettr; |
and fed in the morning;
þvíat ósýnt er,hvarat aptni kømr;|
for one cannot foresee where one will be by evening;
illt er fyr heill at hrapa. |
it is bad to rush headlong before one's fate.

It was a merit to be clean in Middle Age in Iceland, because it is very cold. In Europe we think that Scandinavian people is very profound. It takes me one day or more to comprehend a Finland joke, seriously. North people is deep.

Aaoiue, I'll give you that our sense of humour is different. It's not something that everyone appreciates or gets, but I wouldn't trade it in for the world. It's what keeps us sane in a harsh climate. As for being deep, that comes from too much brooding in the dark.

Hi Nomad. No sense in getting the dash on fate. No ma'am. What I absolutely (double underline), adore though is that bit of architecture in the photo - - that roof! I want one on a log cabin! I've always wanted a Japanese temple roof over my house...but I think this is a roof to compete.

Fool, It has always been my dream to have a house in this style in the middle of a field covered with wild flowers. Ah, to dream. And yes, fate will come when its time is nigh.

I appreciate Scandinavian humour very much, take it for granted.

Aaoiue, That's nice to hear. I am sure that we could have a good time joking together.

Fuser, well quit that rushing. It doesn't do anyone any good.

Steffi, I wish. I would so like to visit my relatives there, but I'm thinking perhaps next summer. Maybe I can visit you then too and we can have our coffee together.

Jemina, Thanks for stopping by and for the tip. I'll check it out.

That is just amazing!
would love to see that with my own eyes. (The highest compliment I can think of at the moment.)

I didn't get the joke, though...

Carla said...

Shamelle, Thanks and welcome.

NYD, Actually...at this point and time, there is no joke. Perhaps that's the joke. Very subtle, eh?

This reminds me of what Z said a couple of years ago when she was 9, "Always turn with a smile because you don't know when someone has a camera". It is true about being ready for the day. I try to get washed up and put on makeup in case someone stops by or I have to run to the store for something.

my mom had a saying like that but it went, "always wear clean underware cause you never know when you will be in a car crash.", ok not as poetic but a sage is a sage.

As long as I don't have to redo the roof....

Dawn, I love "Z" saying. That's great and so very true. I guess it's good to always anticipate a little.

Annie, You are so sweet. I always enjoy your fabulous photos.

VE, Those roofs were made to last...at least a few centuries. Obviously they were thinking the same thing. ;-)

Maggie, I've heard that saying myself and it certainly is something to consider. Like you said...sage is sage.
