Coffee, Tea, or ....

There are at least three possible parts to a date, of which at least two must be offered: entertainment, food, and affection. It is customary to begin a series of dates with a great deal of entertainment, a moderate amount of food, and the merest suggestion of affection. As the amount of affection increases, the entertainment can be reduced proportionately. When the affection IS the entertainment, we no longer call it dating. Under no circumstances can the food be omitted.

Amen to the food. Watching a guy's table manners is a pretty good way to sum up his general character. Thumbs down for any date who wolfs everything down in seconds.

Or how about a flashback to the seventies and that old favorite, "ass, grass or gas, nobody rides for free". Affection can be very entertaining.

Love it. I totally agree with the food part. I think this will stick in my mind most of the day.

what is a life, if not without food and affection and entertainment?

Dating is integral to the essence of a human life.

For children, we call it play; for adults we call it dating; for those nearing the end of a human lifespan, we call it dignity.
If there ain't no affection nor food nor entertainment, then life is missing.
Thought provoking post, K.B.

Rowena, A guys table manners can also be pretty good entertainment. And yes, there must always be food.

We're Doomed, I have never heard that saying. Charming.

Aaoiue, Thanks. I hope you always have much to think about.

Pamela, lol, as long as you're both enjoying it.

Dawn, Without the food, we would be no where and not nearly as entertaining.

Panhandle Pete, Many wishes for good food, lots of entertainment and much affection.

H'lo Nomad. Miss Manners also had a word of caution to add with regard to summing up a date by their table manners: "Charming villains have always had a decided social advantage over well-meaning people who chew with their mouths open." Fun thread...thanks for the smile.

This is so funny. To me anyway.

And in the throes of new love we can go without food for maybe 18 hours (never getting out of bed,) :) but when the hunger kicks in, it is a big-time romantic food fest! ")

Fool, Yes, I've probably run into a few charming villains myself. And thus we can't judge a book by its cover. Such is life.

Jannie, Is to me as well. Bring on the feast.
