Merry Kitschmas

Yes, even in the very heart of the Kootenays where beauty often surpasses beauty itself, kitsch is alive and well if you know where to look. And I wish I could add the sound bites that go with these photos. Yep, that's right, you've got the non-stop music ting-a-linging away as well. It's quite a scene. I mainly have two thoughts: first, where do they store all this stuff? Honestly, you haven't seen the half of it here. And the house is quite tiny, so I'm really not sure. And it's not just Christmas, almost any holiday that comes along, they've got a whole yard display. My second thought is that I hope that this is making some child extremely happy, although it could just as easily give nightmares. I certainly wouldn't want these images in my dreams.

Other than that, despite my silence, I wish you all extremely well. Life kind of got away from me for a bit and when I had the chance to sit still, that, not surprisingly, is all I wanted to do. And there is no better time to sit quietly than in these dark winter months. I am very much enjoying them, although I might protest the cold as I occasionally have want to do. I shall be back...most hopefully very soon.

((Miss you!)) And I can totally relate. I'm trying to find the joy in little decorative things everywhere, yet that little voice keeps saying, "Is all of this really necessary?" Of course, those who buy it think so and can't imagine the question even existing (or that an evil person would ever dare ask it!). I understand that feeling, too. It's just a visual and emotional overwhelm for me and a plastic ?? I can't begin to be okay with. But the little lights? Anyday.

Merry Christmas Carla.

Isle Dance, I love the lights. One can't have too many little sparkly lights in these dark winter nights. I threatened to just put up a tree with no decorations this year and to simply enjoy the beauty of the tree, and then the thought was that tree and lights would be pure bliss. And of course the plastic, I seem to have a special aversion if it is plastic. It is a bit of a visual and emotional overwhelm.

We're Doomed, Thank you and to you as well.

I too wonder where people store all those seasonal decorations. We have a storeroom and it's full of stuff. Stuff.

I'm full of stuff too... It's been an incredible day of food and family.

Love the kitsch.

Merry Christmas Carla!
I too find it time to reflect this year. Of course, I'm tempted to take my husband's advice when it comes to trying times. "Ignore it".
LOL

Buon Natale / Hau'oli Makahiki Hou Carla! As for the xmas yard decorations....I'm always amused at the large inflatables found gracing hawaiian homes. A hoot!

A Very Merry Christmas to you and may the silence be as beautiful as that of your post.

Allow the time of reflection and relaxation to stimulate the mind in preperation for 2010

Happy Holidays, Carla! I completely understand the wily way life has of getting away from one. It's nuts how that happens. I also feel you on the desire to merely sit still when you can.

BUT... I can't wait to have you back with your amazing images, words and recipes!
A toast to a super 2010!!

'Kitschmas' is an invention of the Babylonians about 3500 years ago and taken up by the Catholics as a great marketing ploy for controlling the masses- worked quite well :)
Which should not detract from the fact of Christs birth , death and resurrection for the salvation that born again believers can celebrate.
That gift is unfortunately left un opened under many a tree
shalom and have a happy New Year!
Jim

Kitschmas...what an interesting word. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised when I went to town (Salmon Arm) - hardly any decoration at all - a few trees decorated with lights, wreath on the old fashioned street lights...very refreshing.

I wish you a wonderful 2010 with lots of lovely moments!

Pamela, that's why I wondered...I could not fill a yard like this place, but I have lots of "stuff" stored.

Envoy-ette, I hope that 2010 brings you less trying times than the year before. Happy New Year.
