Planning

There are some roads that we perhaps would never have ventured down if we knew where they were going to lead. At times there are unavoidable completely unpredictable twists. However, I still believe that the best way to get to where we are going is to know our final destination. After that we can decide how we are going to get there. Oh yes, it is perfectly normal at times when we are half-way there to decide that we'd rather be going somewhere else. We might do an about face or venture down some off the beaten path. Sometimes we are in a hurry and will hop onto the autobahn, and at times, we'd rather take the scenic route and enjoy the journey. But however we choose to get there, we must first know where "there" is.

Ah, nomadic gleanings...to know one's destination as a prerequisite to travel.. Nice thought, cool photo, and great quote. I think I may have tried that driving trick in younger days. As I recall, it doesn't work to well...

Happy Thursday, Nomad.

:)

Fool, I'm sure we've all been guilty of that "driving" trick at least once in our life.

Tracey, I second that.

When I was younger and braver, I used to love to fill up the tank of my car with plenty of gas and just start driving. I had no idea where I would end up.

These days.. I don't think it would be possible to be that carefree about it.

Being a first born and having been taught to always look both ways, I tend to look at the path and as many variables as possible to try to work out the outcome. I am not always far off, and it has served me well. However, there are just some variables we cannot know or predict, and I tend to be pretty reasonable in the big things, if it doesn't go right. Then I go with the flow. That too has served me well.

I sense there is more to the story. We used to just go and drive someplace we hadn't been before. Even if it only meant down some road that we pass quite often, but do not know what is down it.

Nice picture.

Chani, That could certainly make for some fun adventures.

Dawn, It often seems that those of us who are first born often take the responsibility of the world on our shoulders. And I think you are right...learning to go with the flow certainly helps us manage through crisis without too much stress.

Sirdar, Of course you are right. There is always more under the surface when we start digging.

Wise words indeed and one can so relate...

Perhaps that is why a Sat Nav - is the solution - at least in my case...

A delightful photo to captivate the mind.

Sometimes things doesn't go as planned. It's good to plan at times at it gives us the focus but too much planning make us lose sight of options available to us.

I agree. It's good to have a plan. It's even better to have a back-up plan. Best of all is to be flexible enough to ditch them both.

Guilty Secret, I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks.

I love to travel down unknown roads and country lanes. But to travel unknowingly through life is something scary for me.

My journey of self-discovery with my writing is something which I wish I had been more braver with, and set off on this road a lot sooner.

Best wishes and thank you for the thought.

Annie

Annie, I too like the adventuresome unknowns when traveling, but I do like some degree of direction in life. Thanks for stopping by.

I agree with Beccy too.And your picture is very beautiful!

Carla said...

Beccy, Thanks. I'm rather fond of the quote myself.

Thanks Steffi. You take some pretty nice photos yourself.

What if we are going nowhere and discover we've already arrived?

I find myself returning to this intriguing quotation - and how one reflects on its meaning...

How such enable the mind to explore - a delightful read Carla - thank you.

Very cool photo. I am so one of those people that need to know the destination or "what the point" of an exercise is. I find I explain things to my children that way as well. "The reason I'm teaching you this is..." I don't think that was what you were trying to express but that was MY take on it anyway.

Sorry I haven't been commenting in awhile. :)

Food for thought, Carla.
In the (perhaps surprising) words of Albert Einstein:

"The distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion."

Could it be that the 20th century's greatest scientist was in fact "nothing but" a mystic?

Have a wonderful weekend. :)

Debbie, No problem about not commenting. I've been having a difficult time getting around to all my favorite blog reads lately. I feel bad about it, but there are only 24 hours in a day.

Winters, Or perhaps it was the mystic who was a scientist. Intriguing words indeed.

Bohemian Girl, Thanks for the great quote. I love it.

I so hear you on that road. But that's what life is all about. Sometimes it's just fun to go off the beaten path.

Have a great wknd!
