Nightmare because of the walking and climbing?
Am I late for the smart comment award?
Good night and good luck!

Carla, on a more serious note, your mentioning the wall as a form of protection and separation made me think that I just finished to watch "West Bank Story" by Ari Sandel. It is a sort of transposition of West Side Story into nowadays event in Israel and the occupied territories. I feel it has been over estimated, but I can share it with you if you want. I had to download it as it was not available anyway. And I mention it because they quote the wall under construction to prevent terrorist attack.
Good night and good luck.

When I have a moment I will do a follow-up post to explain my reaction...that was my reaction when I first set foot on the great wall. If you can't wait, check out your Chinese history - First emperor.

Fede, The "smart comment award," is all yours.

JBelle, Thanks. It really is a once in a lifetime see.

Fede, Sounds like an interesting film, even if it is over rated.

Peter, Enlightenment will come. Have patience, I will get to it.

Hi Nomad. Stunning photo...it really stands out from the other photos I've taken in of the wall. The compositon is excellent...but the color mix and balance are those of a painter. Absolutely beautiful.

That is a wonder~ I have never seen it in person. It is on my list!

Carla said...

Steffi, Thanks. The wall really is quite something to see.

Fool, I'm sure you too took wonderful pictures. In terms of the lighting and colouring...I really am at the mercy of the weather. Sometimes I have better luck than others.

Sandi, I too have a "list." Quite a long one. It is worth seeing, there is something in seeing it that a picture just can't capture.

Carla

Lovely Photo.

History turns what was a horror now into a tourist destination...and in time our tourist destinations will be our horrors...Killy and Everest continue to melt.

Pinks, There was a recent article in National Geographic highlighting just that...some of our most famous glaciers have almost totally disappeared in the last 20-30 years and the arctic ice cap continues to shrink far faster than anyone ever anticipated.

Seriously. Like the pyramids in Egypt... but it is still a marvel to look at - especially in person.

Now that would be one hell of a walk! Beautiful picture ;o)

Carla said...

Carrie, Yes, it certainly is.

Thanks Jillie. Are you back from your trip then? And yes, a very lovely walk...that is if you can stand the humidity and heat.

Wow. I didn’t realize until I read the comments that you took this picture. It is phenomenal. Really. Seeing the wall stretch out to the horizon like that.

The people that died building that wall and all of the other unimaginable horrors related. But it IS also awe inspiring. I would love to see it one day.

Sirdar, Somehow I missed your comment. Sorry about that. Sometimes blogger is so temperamental. The Great Wall is definitely something worth seeing.

Debbie, The Wall really is breath taking and awe inspiring to see. But you are right...to see it is also to realize all the sacrifice that went into created (that is voluntary and otherwise).

Hi Nomad. I have not been to China. I originally studied Chinese in college with the intentions of going...but then the Tiananmen Square incident happened...so I switched to Japanese and went to Japan. By "taken in" I mean of all the pictures I've seen. It really is an exceptional photograph. Really.

Fool, Looking back, I misread your comment. I either glossed over the "in" or thought it was a typo. I guess that changes the meaning. Thanks for the compliment. Of the pictures I took of the wall, it is one of my favorites.
