Celebrating Mothers

Yesterday, I had planned on doing a whole post on my mother and why she is so fabulous. There are so many things I could have said, and I had even chosen the most wonderful picture of her. But instead I decided to throw a brunch in her honour. And as my super powers don't extend quite as far as hers...that's as far as I got. But lunch was wonderful. I had also invited some friends of my parents, after all, it was my mother's day and she deserved to enjoy herself with good friends.

I was duly inspired by Cheryl's whole "high tea" experience. I am sure that "high tea" is steeped (pardon the pun) in rich tradition. But alas, I am not British and more a fly by the seat of my pants, make it up as I go sort of gal, so I probably got it all wrong and served all sorts of things I shouldn't have, starting with wine instead of tea. My hosts, of course, had no idea where my inspiration might have come from and very graciously declared that the whole event was very "west coastish."

As far as plans go, or don't go, I had initially wanted to take advantage of the sunny streak of weather we'd been enjoying and to eat outside on the deck. Naturally it didn't once cross my mind that the weather wasn't in the least bit interested in cooperating with me. In fact, I had worried that perhaps it would be a little too warm. But the sunshine did not have me scheduled in, forcing me once again to improvise. So from within, we watched stormy clouds, rain and eventually a rainbow. I guess we didn't miss the sunshine too much.

I won't go into too much detail about what I served, as the pictures give you a pretty good sampling. For me, certain combinations please without fail. The hidden surprise in the profiterals were cherries...with Swiss chocolate, mmm...

I hope all you mothers out there had a wonderful Mother's day.

You make me wish that I was your mom! Everything looks delicious, the colors so brilliant and appetizing. I'm glad you're a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of gal. Certainly makes everything more exciting!

G'morning Nomadi de Gusto. Those look to be some creative and tasty delicacies. What's it take to get a bit more info on those bits in the second picture? Or those lil' choco-creamo delights? My eyes glaze. Short of marriage, I'd be willing to make a trade for a recipe.

It's the last week for kids up here...is the calendar the same in your country?

Have a great Tuesday.

Rowena, it certainly does...on the rare occasion too much so.

Fool, I'll send you the recipes. They are both pretty easy.

I'm jealous...our kids keep going until almost the end of June. But then I believe we get a nice long Christmas break...perhaps you do too.

Gosh, am I glad I came over here! I needed to get the Beijing Belly vision out of my head FAST!

These photos did the trick. Of course now I'm drooling all over my brand new keyboard! :)

Peter, thanks...it really was a lovely day.

Dan, ya...sorry about the visual. But you really must quit drooling on that keyboard of yours...or you will need yet another one.

The food just looks wonderful. For a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of gal you did great. I also fly by pants, but don't think it would look so good:)
Thanks for visiting me. You are brvave to comment om someone's blog who post about light fixtures:)

Carla said...

Trella, I'm sure whatever you made would look lovely and taste just as good. In terms of being brave, I simply found it ironic as I was thinking of posting a few pictures of my fixtures.

Ok...I give. This blog is going to be my heaven! I love food...not just any food...gourmet, beautifully yummy food! Let's just say, instead of cartoons, my kids favorite shows these days appear on the Food Network. Yes, raising little chefs who enjoy cooking and good food just as much as mommy!

Looks like your lunch was one fabulous success!

Wow. That looks like a great spread for your mother and guests. I bet it was a great time. Wish I was there...or at least your mother for a day :-)

Cheryl, the day ended up being just perfect.

Awaiting, I have a weakness for beautiful, yummy food too. Your kids watching the food network? Wow! I'm impressed. Perhaps I'll have them cater my next event.

Sidar, Thanks.

Carla, amazing job! In Italy we would say: "She is a woman to marry!". I understand it is probably too late, but tonight after 12 hours work I still have the will to blog around...being silly!
Good night and good luck.

PS. By the way, proofreading my comment, I think that "too late" could be referred to the time of the day. Well, I want to clarify that I really meant "too late" to marry you. ;-)

Fede, Considering that it is after midnight, you worked a 12 hour shift and we would be hard pressed to find a padre...not to mention the silliness, it probably is too late. Perhaps another night ;-)

Thanks! I look forward to the recipes...and the results.

I am truly impressed by the fine display of food here.

I hope you had a wonderful day. It seems very clear that noby lefy feeling hungry.

OK, I am lost. You got me at the end. My English is showing up its limitations...
Padre is the Italian for father and/or dad. But does "hard pressed" means something that I don't get?
However helps me wins a bonus week in my Villa in Portofino.
Thanks! Keys under the mat.

Fool, I will try to get the recipes to you either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Winters, indeed, a wonderful day was had by all.

Fede, I'm just trying to keep you guessing. "Hard pressed" means that it would be difficult or we would have a difficult time. Thanks for the keys.

Hello. My wife and I bought our house about 6 months ago. It was a foreclosure and we were able to get a great deal on it. We also took advantage of the 8K tax credit so that definitely helped. We did an extensive remodeling job and now I want to refinance to cut the term to a 20 or 15 year loan. Does anyone know any good sites for mortgage information? Thanks!

Mike

Mike, Are you in the Kootenay region? If so, I might be able to direct you to a good mortgage broker, otherwise you will probably have to continue to shop around. Good luck.
