Intermingled Souls

The soul doesn’t thrive on smooth, uncluttered convictions or on lofty promises of deliverance, nor does it thrive on ideology and dogma, but rather imagination and the mystery which is love.

Love comes from years
Of breathing
Skin to skin
Tangled in each other’s dreams
Until each night weaves another thread
In the same web
Of blood and sleep

What a fine tribute to lasting love. Sirdar and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary this summer and I hope we will see the day these people have when we celebrate our 50th.

Lovely, Nomad. Your notation on the soul is right on target, the music is a treat (I am not very familiar with Cohen's work)-the frame of a dance is very fitting, and the poem and the photos seem to tie it all together. I am assuming that the photos are of your parents...is it an anniversary for them? No matter...it's a nice tribute or stance for any given day. It's a Way. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful tribute Carla. Love is all that matters. It's amazing how similar their poses are in these two photos.

Fool, This isn't my favorite of Cohen's work, but I found the video extremely moving. In fact, I couldn't get through it without losing it...but perhaps it's the other connections I'm making while watching it. The photos are of my grandparents. The second one after over 50 years of marriage (they were in their 80's). They had the sort of love for each other that defies all reason. It was a beautiful thing to witness that after all their years together they loved each other not just as much as when they first met, but more. I guess my thought would be that if you are lucky enough to find that kind of love and recognize it for what it is, hold onto it and cherish it. In the grand scheme of things, not much else matters much.

Chani, So glad you enjoyed.

Peter, My words can't possibly do something as grand and noble as love in it's purest form justice.

Dan, Part of the reason I chose those two photos was the similarity in their poses. Thanks.

Mone, Thanks. Hope you're now well on your way to recovery.

Trella, Thanks.

Tracy, The pictures are my grandparents. Yes, I quite liked the poem too. I imagine you will be having some big celebration this summer for your parents. That's quite a milestone.

50 years. Wow that is a long time but in reality it isn't. I think Dawn and I can make it that long. Only 30 years more!!

Nice poem and pictures.

Those photos of your grandparents are really great. Isn't time interesting when you think about it through picture of the same people many years later. No doubt so many interesting stories between those bookend photos.

Beautiful words because they resonate so well. And I enjoyed the video.

I love the photos of your grandparents and the touch of their story you wrote in the comments. How wonderful for you to see such a great example of love and marriage.

Sirdar, What is time anyway? Many years can pass and some events still feel like yesterday.

Variant E, My Grandmother was quite a story teller, and indeed, there were many a great story. I'm sure that there were many more that I never had the chance to hear.

Debbie, I'm glad you enjoyed the post. Indeed they were wonderful people. I miss them very much.

Beccy, Oops, you just popped in there while I was writing comments. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

My grandparents were of the same ilk, Nomad. They too had a love that defied all, and that lasted through their lifetimes. It is an amazing blessing to witness. Happy Solstice.

After I replayed to your comment I rapidly spun to your web site, and I noticed the new post. I thought: food again. Then I rapidly rolled down your main page and I noticed it was all about food and travel. When I hit the bottom I reached for the older posts, and again: food and travel.
And then I though: who is Carla? And I felt I wanted to know you more. Food and travel was no longer enough. So I found this post, which is a glitch above the average. I liked those pictures because they were a hint, something more.
I better go back to my study now.
By the way, also this comment of mine is slightly more personal than the ones you usually receive. And now it is hidden, here in the folders of your virtual pages...
Good night and good luck.

Fede, Sometimes it is tough to delve into the more personal goings on of the soul in such a public place. I often find myself holding back just a little as I have not tried to conceal my true identity and occasionally the bizarre reminder presents itself that we just never really know who is reading. There is lots going on beneath the surface of the words if you look hard enough and know how to interpret such a language. Good luck with the studies. Hope all is well in your little corner of the world.
